Third World Traveler puts up magazine articles and book excerpts that offer an alternative view to the corporate media about the state of democracy in America, and about he impact of the policies of the United States' government, transnational corporations, international trade and financial institutions, and the corporate press, on democracy, human rights and social and economic justice, in the Third World, and in the United States. THIRD WORLD TRAVELER also provides information and links to aid travelers visiting Third World countries.

FAIR, the national media watch group, has been offering well-documented criticism of media bias and censorship since 1986. We work to invigorate the First Amendment by advocating for greater diversity in the press and by scrutinizing media practices that marginalize public interest, minority and dissenting viewpoints. As an anti-censorship organization, we expose neglected news stories and defend working journalists when they are muzzled. As a progressive group, FAIR believes that structural reform is ultimately needed to break up the dominant media conglomerates, establish independent public broadcasting and promote strong non-profit sources of information...

Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, we are committed to creating a peaceful world -- one with liberty, justice and dignity for all. We believe that there are better ways to resolve conflicts than killing each other, and that we can find ways to bring an end to warfare...

Peace Brigades International (PBI) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) which protects human rights and promotes nonviolent transformation of conflicts. When invited, we send teams of volunteers into areas of political repression and conflict. The volunteers accompany human rights defenders, their organizations, and others threatened by political violence. Those responsible for human rights abuses usually do not want the world to witness their actions. The presence of volunteers backed by an emergency response network thus helps deter violence. In this way, we create space for local activists to work for social goals.

Can Average Citizens Participate in the War on Terrorism?; by David Corn
Congress is going about business as usual -- passing tax cuts for the wealthy -- and Bush is calling on patriotic Americans to do the same -- by shopping at the mall and watching TV news. Whither heroism in the war on terrorism?

CorpWatch counters corporate-led globalization through education and activism. We work to foster democratic control over corporations by building grassroots globalization--a diverse movement for human rights, labor rights and environmental justice. For the past four years San Francisco-based CorpWatch has been educating and mobilizing people through the CorpWatch.org website and various campaigns, including the Climate Justice Initiative and the UN and Corporations Project....

Grandmothers for Peace Statement on the Terrorist Attack:

The horror of September 11, 2001 will live in our hearts and minds forever. We extend our gratitude to all the courageous people involved in the rescue operations in New York and Washington, and our deepest sympathy to those who have lost loved ones.

We abhor this violent act, but fervently believe that retaliation, hatred and vengeance will not relieve the hearts of grief. A calm resolve and clear thinking must prevail. But after the mourning, we MUST also ask “Why?” .....

Under militarism, the people deemed inferior are dehumanized as enemies who must be overpowered by any means necessary. Those who deem themselves superior are permitted to take whatever they want from others — land, freedom, natural resources, cultures, lives — by force.

Militarism derides cooperation, equality and nonviolence, and instead enforces strict hierarchical relationships. Hierarchical system.....
